San Francisco Giants — Despite being 0/4 in save chances, having seven losses as a reliever, and having an ERA of 9.00 on the season, the Giants summoned Sam Dyson to protect a one run lead and it worked! Dyson pitched a scoreless eleventh inning to convert his first save of the season and lower his ERA under 9.00 for the first time all year. Dyson will continue to see save chances while Mark Melancon is out.
Hierarchy remains: Dyson | Strickland | Kontos.
St. Louis Cardinals — The Cardinals used five relievers out of the bullpen on Saturday night and all of them were perfect, except for one. Of course the one reliever who was not perfect was the man they sent out for the ninth inning to close out a two run lead. Trevor Rosenthal got his second straight save chance and certainly would have moved to the top of the committee if he could have converted it. Instead, he gave up a run and loaded the bases before being pulled with two outs. Matt Bowman came on and struck out the only batter he faced to pick up his first career save. Seung Hwan Oh struck out the two batters he faced in the eighth inning, and might get another chance in the ninth since Rosenthal has given up runs in four of his last five appearances.
Hierarchy remains: *Oh | Rosenthal | Cecil.

Cleveland Indians — Andrew Miller picked up his second save of the season on Saturday night with a perfect ninth inning (with a little help from a great catch by Bradley Zimmer). Cody Allen pitched a scoreless eighth. Miller has recorded two saves to Allen’s zero since they announced the swap in roles, and if Miller gets the next save, we will give in and move him to the top of the committee.
Hierarchy remains: *Allen | Miller | Shaw.

Detroit Tigers — Bruce Rondon pitched a scoreless eighth inning ahead of closer Justin Wilson in the Tigers’ victory yesterday. Since getting called back up, Rondon has a win and two holds in three scoreless innings. With Alex Wilson struggling, the Tigers appear ready to give Rondon yet another chance at the back-end of their bullpen.
Updated hierarchy: J. Wilson | Rondon | A. Wilson.
Cincinnati Reds – Tony Cingrani pitched a perfect seventh inning to pick up his fourth hold of the season. Cingrani has been pitching well since coming off the DL in early June and appears to replaced Drew Storen in the Reds late inning bullpen plans.
Updated hierarchy: Iglesias | Lorenzen | Cingrani.
Washington Nationals – The Nationals designated Jacob Turner for assignment, and activated another lefty Sammy Solis. Solis gave up a run in his first game back, but could work his way onto the Nationals hierarchy while Glover and Kelley are sidelined. For now, we will move Blake Treinen into Turner’s spot since he did get the save chance the other night.
Updated hierarchy: *Albers | Romero | Treinen.
* = closer-by-committee
Texas Rangers — Yesterday, Jeff Banister announced that the Rangers will move to a closer-by-committee approach, with Keone Kela leading the way (when healthy) ahead of Jose Leclerc, Alex Claudio, and — at least eventually — Matt Bush.
Updated hierarchy: *Kela | Leclerc | Claudio.

VULTURE SAVE WATCH

1. Jerry Blevins – Addison Reed has pitched in three straight games.
2. Jose Leclerc – Alex Claudio pitched 2.1 innings yesterday so if Keone Kela isn’t available today, Leclerc will likely get the save chance.

2. Juan Nicasio – Felipe Rivero threw two innings yesterday and if he pitches again today, he could get Monday off.
